Alignment

alignment-feat-image-resize

Somewhere a door closed
And a heart broke open
The sounds they made
Were nearly the same

A harsh click
A cylinder twisted
A bolt inserted

Then light bending silence

It would be a long time
If the time came at all
When there might be an eye at the peephole
Scanning a new landscape
Changed by time and false memory

And then perhaps a reluctant hand on the doorknob
Turning it ever so slightly
Followed by the small but emphatic sounds
Of the cylinders in the lock
Falling back into alignment
